General objective Evaluate the capacity of strains of Bacillus sp. as plant growth promoting microorganisms (PGPR) in vitro and under greenhouse in vegetables of economic interest. Justification The purpose of this research is to evaluate the efficiency of Bacillus sp. as a microorganism that promotes plant growth in vegetables, through laboratory analysis and greenhouse tests, in order to apply Biotechnology resources in the development of an environmentally friendly agriculture and as a replacement alternative to the use of chemical fertilizers (Zuñiga , 2009). Due to the fact that currently agricultural crops are severely affected by the presence of pathogens, which can cause significant damage to production and economic losses for farmers, both due to crop loss and soil damage that prevent re-cultivation in the same (Santoyo, et al., 2010). A strategy used for a long time to treat plant diseases and improve the quality of crops, especially in terms of yield, is the use of chemical compounds; however, it has been proven that these have various negative consequences for both the environment and human health. Currently there is a demand for food production that uses technologies that are friendly to the environment and that do not affect human health, and also that are of better quality, since it is also known that synthetic fertilizers can bioaccumulate in food and pass into consumers (Carcaño, et al., 2006). Therefore, it is important to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers in order to obtain safe food. The use of microorganisms as biological fertilizers is an efficient and ecological alternative because it reduces the pollution generated by agrochemicals and contributes to the development of sustainable agriculture (Armenta, et al., 2010).
