Evaluation of Quality, Occupational Risks, and Environmental Impacts of Small and Medium-Sized Manufacturing Enterprises in the City of Cuenca

This research project addresses the operational management of manufacturing SMEs in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador, a sector that represents a significant portion of the local economy but often lacks formal processes in quality, occupational safety, and environmental management. The research is justified by the need to overcome management deficiencies in these companies, which are typically family-owned and have limited access to innovation technologies. The methodological approach is exploratory and descriptive, using the DMAI cycle (Define, Measure, Analyze, Identify) to evaluate a representative sample of 47 organizations. Data on production factors, occupational risks, and environmental parameters will be collected through technical tools and on-site visits. The project aims to generate critical inputs, such as risk matrices, heat maps, and technical reports, to serve as a foundation for future interventions and project charters. The expected impact is to provide a clear roadmap to improve the sustainability and competitiveness of manufacturing SMEs. By professionalizing operational management, these companies are expected to optimize resources, reduce losses, and comply with safety and environmental standards, thereby contributing to the economic and social development of the canton.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>Evaluate quality, occupational risks, and environmental impacts in small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises in Cuenca to identify operational improvement opportunities.
