Description
This research project addresses the challenge of Plutella xylostella, one of the most destructive pests for Brassicaceae crops globally and in Ecuador, due to its high capacity to develop insecticide resistance. The main objective is to monitor the population dynamics of the pest and its natural parasitoids in the Ecuadorian highlands through field collection and laboratory observations. The methodology integrates traditional entomological techniques, such as the use of taxonomic keys and high-power stereoscopes, with advanced molecular tools for the precise identification of parasitoid genera such as Oomyzus sp. and Diadegma sp. By understanding these biological interactions, the study aims to generate scientific knowledge that allows for a reduction in reliance on chemical pesticides, promoting more sustainable biological control alternatives. The results will be systematized into scientific articles following Scielo standards and presented at international forums, contributing significantly to the protection of strategic crops like broccoli, which represents a major economic pillar in Ecuadorian agriculture.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>Establish the population dynamics of Plutella xylostella and its parasitoids in Brassicaceae crops in the Ecuadorian highlands to strengthen biological control strategies.<br/><br/><b>Research lines</b>: <br/>Food production
