Description

This project addresses the historical problem of instability loss in Electric Power Systems (EPS), exacerbated by the integration of new technologies such as non-conventional renewable energy and distributed generation. The main objective is to develop optimal strategies for identifying stability margins, focusing specifically on the analysis of voltage indicators, which is crucial for operational planning and network expansion. The research seeks to overcome the limitations of existing stability indices, which are often not used in operational planning, by quantifying electrical parameters under non-nominal operating conditions. The proposed methodology includes historical, descriptive, inductive, and deductive research, culminating in applied and experimental research. Different operational scenarios will be generated considering distributed generation, storage, electric vehicles, and contingencies. Expected outcomes include defining a generic methodology for determining stability margins and quantifying stability after contingencies, which will materialize in the publication of indexed scientific articles (Scopus and Web of Science) and degree theses. The expected impact is the minimization of potential system collapses, the proposal of a model for operational planning, and the reduction of power system operating costs.

Goal:
To define the safe operating margins of electric power systems through the analysis of voltage stability indices in the transmission and distribution stages of energy.

Research lines:
Operation and control of electrical systems
