Description
This project focuses on optimizing the design of Passive Optical Networks (PON) used for implementing FTTH services, addressing the inherent vulnerability of traditional topologies that rely on a single feeder fiber (feeder-OF) and a single Central Office (CO). Loss of communication with the CO or feeder fiber breakage causes significant service interruptions. To mitigate this issue, the proposed solution involves implementing PON topologies with redundant Central Offices. The "optimal topology search - OTS" algorithm, developed in collaboration with the OPTCOM research group at the Polytechnic University of Turin, is utilized to calculate optimal configurations based on real geographic data sourced from OpenStreetMap. The OTS algorithm has already been validated for conventional PON networks in European and Colombian cities. The methodology encompasses a review of the state-of-the-art, model implementation using specialized fiber optic network simulation software, and experimental validation of the results for subsequent scientific publication.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>To optimally size Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) networks based on PON technology, incorporating redundant Central Offices to enhance resilience in densely populated urban sectors.<br/><br/><b>Research lines</b>: <br/>Telecommunications and information technologies
