Development and Implementation of a Wind Tunnel Type Test Bench for the Selection of Domestic Refrigerator Fans at UPS Cuenca

This project addresses the need of Indurama, a domestic refrigerator manufacturer in Ecuador, to enhance equipment energy efficiency by optimizing the design of internal fans responsible for cold air distribution. The primary goal is to design and implement a wind tunnel type test bench capable of measuring the fan characteristic curve (static pressure versus airflow rate) for four types of motor-fans used by the company. The methodology involves four phases: basic design (information gathering, international standards analysis, and component selection), detailed design (calculations, CAD modeling, and workshop drawings), construction and assembly, and finally, testing and adjustments. The test bench must strictly comply with international standards for aerodynamic fan testing, enabling Indurama to validate its components and advance its R&D and quality processes. The final outcome will be the operational implementation of the test bench at the Salesian Polytechnic University.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>To design and implement a wind tunnel type test bench to obtain the characteristic curve of the fans used in domestic refrigeration equipment manufactured by Indurama, ensuring compliance with international standards.<br/><br/><b>Research lines</b>: <br/>Simulation and optimization of industrial processes
