Description
This research project addresses oral health issues in Ecuador by analyzing the relationship between fluoride levels in drinking water and the prevalence of dental fluorosis and dental caries. Given the country's geographic diversity, which shows significant variations in fluoride concentration between the coast and the highlands, the study aims to compare these two regions to identify specific risk factors.
The methodology is quantitative, observational, and cross-sectional, involving 350 participants aged 4 to 15 in the provinces of Cotopaxi and Guayas. Spectrophotometry will be used to measure fluoride levels in water sources, while the ICDAS II system and Dean's Index will be used for clinical dental diagnosis. Statistical analysis will be performed using Pearson's Chi-Square tests.
Expected results include the generation of updated scientific evidence to serve as a basis for future public health policies and the integration of these findings into the academic curriculum of the Faculty of Dentistry at the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana. The project seeks to promote preventive measures and improve the quality of life in the studied communities.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>To determine fluoride concentrations in drinking water and their correlation with the prevalence of dental fluorosis and dental caries in school-aged populations in the Ecuadorian coast and highlands.
