Description
This project focuses on evaluating activated sludge technology for treating domestic and industrial wastewater in the Metropolitan District of Quito, where treatment coverage is currently nonexistent. The primary goal is to quantify the removal efficiency of key parameters, such as Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS), within an aerobic complete-mix, continuous-flow system. The methodology involves physicochemical and microbiological characterization of wastewater sourced from domestic users, the candy industry, and the dairy industry. Laboratory-scale analyses will be conducted to determine the most suitable primary and secondary treatments before pilot or plant implementation. Finally, the required treatment units will be designed and installed, stabilizing the activated sludge reactor and continuously analyzing influent and effluent COD to validate the process efficiency against existing water quality standards.
