Determinant Factors Affecting Competitiveness in the Metalworking Sector of Guayaquil

This research project focuses on analyzing and determining the factors defining competitiveness within the metal-mechanic sector of Guayaquil, Ecuador. The study addresses the need to understand the static and dynamic landscape of this strategic sector, aligning with national economic priorities outlined in the Organic Law of Production, Trade, and Investment (COPCI). The methodology utilized is mixed, combining qualitative and quantitative phases. Initially, an exploratory phase will involve an extensive review of economic and administrative literature (drawing on authors like Porter, Deming, and Katz) and interviews with sector experts and managers to establish a robust theoretical framework and define hypotheses. Subsequently, in the confirmatory phase, statistical models and techniques will be applied to evaluate and measure socioeconomic outcomes. The analysis will be grounded in Porter's Five Forces Model to dissect competitiveness, examining supplier and buyer bargaining power, the threat of new entrants and substitutes, and the intensity of internal rivalry.
