Project Details

Description

The project addresses the challenge of organic solid waste (OSW) management at the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, Cuenca campus, where inadequate disposal contributes to landfill saturation and greenhouse gas emissions. The research proposes the design and construction of an automated composting machine, optimized for the climatic and operational conditions of Ecuador's Sierra Austral region. The methodology includes physicochemical characterization of waste, computer-aided design (CAD), construction of a functional prototype, and experimental validation of the biodegradation process. Control systems for critical variables such as temperature, humidity, and pH will be integrated, aiming to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs compared to current commercial solutions. As a result, the project expects to deliver an efficient prototype capable of transforming OSW into quality biofertilizers for internal use, promoting circular economy and university social responsibility. The project also includes the generation of scientific publications and the creation of a pedagogical tool for the academic community.

Goal:
To design and optimize a sustainable composting machine for the efficient management of organic solid waste in educational environments. The project aims to reduce the environmental impact of organic waste through a technological solution adapted to local conditions.

Research lines:
Simulation and optimization of industrial processes
