Project Details
Description
This project addresses the urgent need to highlight and promote a responsible agro-food system by contrasting the environmental impacts generated by intensive agriculture (use of agrochemicals) with the agroecological model. The core problem lies in food contamination and the environmental externalities (air, water, soil) associated with the traditional model, which affect human health and rural ecosystems. The main purpose is to generate comparative data in the Cayambe and Tabacundo area. The methodology focuses on conducting a comparative Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for conventional and agroecological supply chains, analyzing key stages such as consumption and waste management. Furthermore, the current traceability system for supplying agroecological products to university cafeterias will be diagnosed, including a review of participatory guarantee systems and quality certification. The ultimate goal is to support an ethical system that promotes the conservation of ecosystem services, aligning with the objectives of the National Plan for Good Living.

Goal:
To generate information regarding the environmental impacts of the agro-food system under the green revolution model versus the agroecological model in the Cayambe and Tabacundo area, achieved through a comparative life cycle analysis of the supply chains.

Research lines:
Agroecology, environment and territory
