Cognitive Development, Quality of Life, and Subjective Perception of Aging in Older Adults in the Metropolitan District of Quito (Phase 2)

This research project addresses the growing phenomenon of population aging in Ecuador by seeking to characterize the conditions of older adults in the Metropolitan District of Quito, differentiating between rural and urban areas (north and south). The study is grounded in the 'Life Span' paradigm, which views aging as a complex, continuous process involving biological, psychological, and social dimensions, promoting the concept of 'active aging'. The core problem is the need to understand the specific realities of this age group to design appropriate interventions, especially given the rise in cognitive decline and psychosocial complexities associated with retirement, family changes, and the perception of mortality. The methodology employs a mixed-methods approach (qualitative and quantitative), with exploratory and descriptive scope, utilizing tools such as tests and surveys to measure psychological functions and contexts. This is complemented by participant observation and focus groups to delve into subjective perceptions of aging, illness, and current care trajectories.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>The main objective of this project is to determine the characteristics of aging exhibited by older adults in the Metropolitan District of Quito (rural, north urban, and south urban areas), focusing specifically on their cognition, quality of life, and subjective perception of aging.<br/><br/><b>Research lines</b>: <br/>Mental health
