Characterization of the Compositional, Hygienic, and Sanitary Quality of Bovine Milk from 3 Regions of Ecuador

This research project aims to update the diagnostic assessment of raw bovine milk quality in Ecuador, addressing the lack of updated regional data since 2011. National milk production faces significant challenges due to inadequate traditional practices and a high incidence of mastitis, which negatively impacts food safety and the economic performance of producers. The methodology involves collecting 750 samples from production units across the Andean, Coastal, and Amazonian regions. Compositional analysis will be performed using infrared spectrophotometry, while total bacterial and somatic cell counts will be conducted via flow cytometry, alongside the identification of mastitis-causing etiological agents. The study employs a multifactorial design to correlate variables and evaluate the impact of current conditions. Expected results include the creation of an updated database to serve as a reference for public policy and improvement strategies within the dairy value chain. The project not only contributes to scientific knowledge but also supports the academic training of biotechnology and agricultural students, promoting better livestock practices for small and medium-sized producers.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>Evaluate the compositional, hygienic, and sanitary quality of bovine milk across the three regions of Ecuador during the 2023 rainy season.
