Challenges of Cooperativism in the Social and Solidarity Economy Sector (Phase 2)

This research project, led by the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, focuses on the challenges of cooperativism within the social and solidarity economy (SSE) sector in Ecuador. The primary objective is to understand how cooperative organizations maintain their fundamental principles in an environment dominated by capital-based economics, specifically analyzing the role of financial cooperatives and the experiences of women in this field. Due to logistical limitations in fieldwork, access to qualified informants, and travel difficulties, the project has required a rescheduling of its activities. The research employs qualitative methodologies, including interviews, expert panels, focus groups, and life histories to systematize knowledge. Expected outcomes include the publication of specialized books on the conditions of cooperativism and collective narratives of women in the SSE. This effort seeks not only to generate academic knowledge but also to return findings to the participating communities, thereby strengthening the visibility and impact of cooperative practices as a benchmark for alternative development.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>To analyze the role of cooperativism in the popular and solidarity economy, identifying the conditions that sustain its principles against the capital-based economy.
