Description
The CASALO Campus project addresses increasing urbanization and sustainability challenges by designing and implementing a 'Smart Campus' prototype at UPS, UTPL, and PUCE universities. Given the lack of a standard model for smart cities in Ecuador, this initiative uses the university campus as a living laboratory to experiment with information technologies, resource management, and smart governance.
The approach integrates the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to monitor critical variables such as energy, water, air quality, and mobility. The project seeks not only to optimize operational efficiency within the institutions but also to establish a metagovernance framework that can be replicated in larger-scale urban environments.
As a result, the project aims to generate a transferable model that promotes circular economy, reduces environmental impact, and improves the quality of life for the university community. This collaborative effort between three academic institutions seeks to lay the foundation for more resilient and sustainable public policies in the face of climate change.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>Develop a Smart Campus university prototype to serve as a model for smart and sustainable cities based on metagovernance principles.
