Assessment of Desertification in Azuay Province Since 1980

This project addresses the issue of land degradation and desertification in Ecuador, focusing specifically on the province of Azuay since 1980. The national context shows high vulnerability, with 47% of Ecuadorian territory affected by erosive problems and significant annual deforestation. The province of Azuay is identified as one of the areas with the highest incidence of erosion in the Sierra region. The main objective is to diagnose the degree of desertification in Azuay using a methodological approach that combines bibliographic research, cartographic interpretation, and analysis of primary data through surveys and interviews with specialized technicians. Furthermore, risk and climatic factors contributing to the problem will be analyzed. The final outcome aims to provide valuable information to the scientific and academic community and structure a concrete technical proposal for the environmental mitigation of desertification in the province.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>To conduct a general diagnosis of the degree of desertification in the province of Azuay starting from 1980, in order to provide information to the scientific and academic community and propose alternatives for environmental mitigation.<br/><br/><b>Research lines</b>: <br/>Study of weather and climate
