Analysis and Processing of Digital Eye Images as an Early Detection Method for Glaucoma

This project addresses the critical issue of glaucoma in Ecuador, one of the leading causes of visual impairment, characterized by long diagnostic waiting times and irreversible consequences. The main objective is to develop a system based on digital processing of ocular images to identify and characterize key parameters that facilitate the early detection of the disease. The methodology employed relies on the analytical method, starting with an exhaustive literature review on eye behavior, intraocular pressure (IOP), and existing measurement devices. Subsequently, the most appropriate method for image processing and the development of a specific algorithm and software will be selected. Finally, the results obtained from the processing will be optimized and validated through collaboration with ophthalmology specialists from the Santa Lucía Clinic in Quito. This approach aims to strengthen the study of biomedical signals and instrumentation, offering a tool that improves the accessibility and timeliness of diagnosis in developing countries.<br/><br/><b>Goal</b>: <br/>To perform digital processing of eye images to characterize various parameters that contribute to the early and timely diagnosis of glaucoma, thereby mitigating the risk of irreversible visual impairment.<br/><br/><b>Research lines</b>: <br/>Computer systems and artificial intelligence
