Recent research:
The researcher’s work spans public health and agricultural biosciences, linking population health with molecular epidemiology of high‑risk HPV to inform prevention strategies in Ecuador, and exploring plant genetics, biotechnological improvements, and biodiversity for food security in the Andean region. The HPV study analyzes thousands of clinical samples to chart incidence and genotype distribution of high‑risk HPV, highlighting age- and region-specific burden and underscoring prevention and early detection. The plant studies investigate interspecific gene flow and hybridization in Solanum species to enhance fruit traits, growth, and phytochemical content under varying growth conditions, with quantitative traits and statistical analyses guiding genotype performance and potential commercialization. A broader biodiversity-focused discourse outlines the rich, regionally diverse flora of Ecuador and Peru, stressing conservation, in situ/ex situ management, and biotechnological applications of edible native species for food security and economic development. Collectively, the work integrates epidemiology, plant genetics, and biodiversity to address public health and agricultural resilience, employing experimental design (in vitro culture, ANOVA, meta-analysis) and emphasis on translational outcomes such as improved cultivars and evidence-based public health interventions. This synthesis positions the investigator at the intersection of Social/Public Health and Plant Science, with impact on policy, crop improvement, and sustainable use of regional biodiversity.
