Personal profile
Research Interests
Across the publications, the author’s work centers on biodiversity, ethnobotany, and natural products from Ecuador and the Andean region, with a strong emphasis on phytochemical characterization, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities, and the translation of traditional knowledge into potential industrial and therapeutic applications. Methodologies frequently include GC-MS and GC-FID for essential oil analysis, spectrophotometric antioxidant assays (DPPH, ABTS, β-carotene bleaching), bioautography, MIC/antimicrobial testing, cytotoxicity assessments, and ethnobotanical surveys in urban and tropical contexts. The integrated narrative highlights a consistent focus on identifying bioactive compounds (e.g., terpenes, phenolics, cinnamates, cannabinoids in low concentrations) and evaluating their health-related activities, while also addressing environmental and social dimensions such as waste valorization and community knowledge preservation. The collective impact points to potential development of natural antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and cosmetic ingredients, as well as contributions to biodiversity conservation, sustainable use, and evidence-based validation of traditional remedies.
