Research Interests
The author’s work collectively advances rural electrification and energy transition in Latin America through a multidisciplinary lens that blends technical optimization, renewable integration, and governance. Across case studies in isolated communities and island contexts, the research demonstrates how hybrid systems (solar, diesel, and storage) can be sized and dispatched to maximize reliability and minimize cost, while evaluating strategies such as cycle load and load tracking to balance technical performance with environmental and economic considerations. In parallel, the work analyzes broad energy trajectories in Ecuador and Latin America, highlighting growing renewable shares, policy implications, and the viability of 100% renewable scenarios for remote regions. The studies emphasize not only technical feasibility but also social, environmental, and governance factors that affect adoption, sustainability, and local development, including the need for management plans, regulatory frameworks, and community benefits. Overall, the impact lies in providing data-driven layouts and policy-guidance for reliable, affordable, and environmentally conscious electrification in resource-constrained settings, contributing to sustainable development and conservation objectives while informing stakeholders on practical pathways for energy transition.
