Research Interests

Recent research:
Across multiple publications, the author engages with the theme of linking innovation, quality, and university–society collaboration to strengthen competitive performance and sustainable development in small and medium enterprises, artisanal production, and local economies. The work consistently employs quality-centric frameworks (notably Quality Function Deployment and the House of Quality), combined with survey data, Delphi expert input, and non-parametric statistical tests (e.g., Kruskal–Wallis) to diagnose gaps in product quality, material use, and strategic capabilities. A central finding is that genuine competitiveness in Cuenca’s meat, leather, and liquor sectors arises when firms adopt intentional innovation, adopt eco-friendly materials where possible, and pursue international sourcing and product diversification. The studies on university–society linkages reveal persistent fragmentation in project objectives and weak alignment with research and community needs, suggesting that improved monitoring, policy continuity, and stronger integration with teaching and research are required to enhance regional development. The research contributes practical recommendations, FOAR analyses, and a critical lens on how AI and governance frameworks can shape knowledge transfer and entrepreneurial ecosystems. Overall, the work highlights the need for structured, evidence-based innovation and governance approaches to elevate local industries and academic engagement with society.
