Research Interests
The body of work synthesizes how emerging mobility technologies interact with urban planning, governance, and measurement practices to shape sustainable cities. The studies apply systematic literature review methods to assess backcasting for autonomous vehicles, revealing a structured process with visioning, policy packaging, and appraisal that informs urban visions, restrictive access policies, and a shift toward transit-oriented development and public transportation. Complementary empirical work in Ecuador investigates driver behavior through a culturally adapted driving questionnaire, identifying demographic and behavioral factors linked to crash risk and underscoring the role of policy and regulation in fostering safety. A regional case study on electric bicycles at a university campus demonstrates the potential of e-mobility to overcome student mobility challenges, using route testing and statistical analysis to show feasibility within local topography. Collectively, the research advances a cohesive narrative where technology-enabled mobility (AVs, e-bikes) is evaluated not only for operational feasibility but also for governance, equity, and environmental sustainability through rigorous measurement and policy-oriented framing.
