Research Interests
A cohesive profile emerges from a broad set of works focused on advancing next-generation optical-wireless networks and their supporting technologies. The research investigates front-haul and fronthaul links for 6G and NG-RAN using Radio-over-Fiber and passive/NG-PON architectures, exploring UFMC, GFDM, PAM4/QRK-based modulations, and OFDM-IM to boost bandwidth, reduce latency, and improve spectral efficiency. The methodology spans co-simulation (MATLAB, OptiSystem/OptSim), hardware-in-the-loop with USRP, and experimental validation across scenarios including BER, EVM, RSSI, eye/constellation analyses, and optical path penalties. A significant thread analyzes dispersion management (pre/post-compensation), coherent versus direct detection, and the impact of channel characteristics such as chromatic dispersion on PONs. Additional work addresses RF/optical integration in RoF, high-capacity WDM-PON, and 5G/6G fronthaul considerations, complemented by studies on AI/ML in optical networks for resource management, monitoring, fault handling, and traffic prediction. The research also covers pragmatic network prototypes, including SDR-based GSM testbeds and VANET/RSU placement optimization, with attention to standards, validation benchmarks, and measurement best practices. Overall, the work contributes to shaping scalable, energy-efficient, and high-capacity access networks through a combination of simulation, experimental setups, and algorithmic optimization, with an emphasis on practical deployment in real-world scenarios and a critical stance on cost-performance trade-offs in advanced receivers and fronthaul links.
