Research Interests
Across multiple publications, the researcher advances sustainable energy access in Latin America through pragmatic, system-level analyses of rural electrification and building-integrated photovoltaics. The work combines techno-economic evaluation, optimization of hybrid renewable energy systems (solar, wind, diesel, battery) and dispatch strategies (load tracking, cycle load), and integration of PV with microgrids to support off-grid communities and institutional facilities. Methodologies include energy resource assessment, software-based design and simulation (PVsyst, PVGlass/ Pvsite, EnergyPLAN, CYMDIST), cost of energy calculations, and policy-oriented perspectives on renewable energy deployment. A unifying theme is delivering reliable, affordable electricity to isolated or underserved areas while reducing environmental impact, showcasing practical architectures (hybrid PV/diesel/battery, PV with storage, microgrids) and governance considerations to enable scalable adoption. The impact lies in providing implementable configurations, cost benchmarks (as low as ~0.27–0.34 USD/kWh), and demonstration of energy access benefits (education, healthcare, internet connectivity) for coastal and island communities in Ecuador and Latin America at large.
