Personal profile
Research Interests
Across multiple studies focusing on biodiversity, ethnobotany, and natural products, the researcher consolidates a cohesive program exploring bioactive compounds in diverse plant taxa (fruits, flowers, leaves, and plant extracts) from Amazonian, Andean, and coastal Ecuadorian ecosystems. Methodologically, work combines physicochemical profiling (pH, soluble solids, moisture, minerals), chromatography-based quantification of vitamins, organic acids, carotenoids, phenolics, and chlorophylls, with antioxidant (ABTS, DPPH) and antimicrobial assays against bacteria and fungi, as well as antiproliferative and antihaemolytic evaluations. Several projects also incorporate advanced material and nanotechnology approaches (green-synthesized nanoparticles) to enhance antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer activities. Key themes include: identification of high-value bioactive compounds in non-traditional fruits and edible flowers, evaluation of antimicrobial and antibiofilm properties, exploration of plant parts (pulp, peel, seeds, shells, leaves) as sources of nutraceuticals, and development of sustainable, plant-derived interventions with potential applications in functional foods, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. The work emphasizes biocompatibility (hemolysis assays), environmental relevance (bioremediation, circular economy), and the need for in vivo studies to translate in vitro findings. This integrated narrative demonstrates a broad impact on natural product discovery, food systems resilience, and green nanotechnologies for health and environmental solutions.
