Research Interests
Across multiple studies in Ecuador, the author develops a cohesive program to assess, govern, and optimize community-based irrigation and agroecological systems through participatory, culturally grounded methods. Using frameworks such as MESMIS, ideal-type methodologies, and analytic hierarchy processes, the work defines context-specific sustainability indicators tied to SDGs and IRA principles, analyzes equitable distribution of water and economic benefits among production systems, and investigates the role of technification and governance in driving efficient water use and rural development. The research integrates environmental, social, economic, political, and technological dimensions to inform policy design, investment prioritization, and empowerment of women and local organizations within Kayambi and Andean communities. A key impact is offering practical tools for public policy, fair tariff design, and investment strategies that align with global sustainability standards while respecting local knowledge, traditions, and gender dynamics. The studies collectively demonstrate that participatory governance, adaptive indicators, and economically differentiatedwater management can enhance resilience, sustainability, and equitable development in agricultural systems facing climate and resource pressures.
