Organization profile

The Communication and Intercultural Research Group (GICOI) is dedicated to the critical analysis of intercultural processes in the Ecuadorian context, adopting an interdisciplinary approach that prioritizes the relationship between communication and interculturality. Its mission is to become a reference in Latin America in the study of communicative and intercultural phenomena, interpreting interculturality as a process inherent to cultural exchanges within specific societies. GICOI recognizes that problems of coexistence between different ethnicities and groups have led to systematic exclusions, and emphasizes that communication is key to addressing these problems. Through research that integrates various disciplines, the group seeks to promote democratic values and the integration of customs and knowledge, using audiovisual and hypermedia production as fundamental tools in its investigative work.
